Cabo de Palos is the furthest point east in the Costa Calida. Cabo de Palos sits on a rocky headland jutting out into The Mediterranean Sea, on which sits an imposing lighthouse built in the 19th Century. The lighthouse was formerly used as a School for lighthouse keepers, but now houses the regions documentation centre and exhibition of tourism resources. The headland is flanked by beaches that have magnificent views back along the foreshore towards, and all the way down, the La Manga Strip.

Cabo de Palos itself is a small fishing village with a small but still working fishing fleet, and it also houses a marina for leisure boats. As is usual the marina is flanked by some superb restaurants and as one would expect fish is a speciality here.

In the summer months the village’s main beach is home to numerous sand-orientated competitions like beach volleyball and kite surfing, and on windy days the skies are filled with the more traditional style of kites. From the Cabo de Palos marina diving schools venture out into The Mediterranean Sea to explore the undersea depths of the nearby Islas Hormigas islands. Back on land there are beautiful, remote and peaceful coves and cliffs, indeed many of the larger rocks even have their own names; “La Botella” (the bottle), “El Canonero” (the gunboat), “El Gorila” (the gorilla), “El Sifon” (the siphon) and “La Cala” (the cove). The area is full of fauna and flora that have adapted to living in the rocky ground and in the salty air environment.

Cabo de Palos is a wonderful place to spend some time on a sunny day, and an excellent place to enjoy a leisurely and typically Spanish lunch.

Cabo de Palos has an air of old fashioned-ness about it, which is at odds with the luxury yachts to be found in its marina.

For this very reason it holds a great deal of charm, it is one of those rare special places ... that really one doesn't want to tell too many people about!

So for the sake of the Chefs that cook the most mouth watering dishes please do go there ... but please don't tell too many people about Cabo de Palos as it is great, just great the way it is!
