Properties architect designed from the ground up for the less able bodied and for those of mature years.
In some respects Spain is far ahead of the UK in building properties for the elderly and the less able bodied. These are not ‘in your face’ adoptions and they are not changes that have been made to existing properties to make them ‘disabled friendly’ In fact the reverse is true – they are architect designed from the drawing board up specially and totally with the less able bodied and those of mature years in mind.
If an able bodied person were to walk into one of these properties in the main they would not recognise it as a SENIOR property at all - all that they would see is a property that ‘breathes’ more easily, one that has more open space and one that feels larger all round. For this reason some owners of SENIOR properties are not disabled nor of mature years, they just like the extra space that a SENIOR property offers. But for those who are of mature years, or who live with a disability, the SENIOR range can make life SO much easier.
Some SENIOR properties might have the option of having disabled wall bars being fitted but the degree of ‘disabled friendly’ and ‘mature friendly’ living will be most evident in the extra space made available – that might be;
• in larger bathrooms • wider corridors • and wider doors • arches in the place of some doors • slopes where normally steps would be • kitchens designed with a bit more space • wet rooms with ‘walk in large American style showers’ in the place of baths and in the place of normal shower trays that have a lip to them • and of course SENIOR properties will normally be ground floor apartments, or bungalows, or villas with no upstairs.
Having a wife living with a severe disability as living life in a wheelchair is, I (Larry Warren) know how valuable the SENIOR range can be, and what a difference it can mean to ones quality of life. My Darling wife has now passed on and I am married to another Darling wife, but if anyone knows the benefits of the SENIOR range then I do.
Please feel free to talk in confidence to me about your needs. I will be a sympathetic ear. And a knowledgeable one.
