Villamartin is one of the Costa Blanca's real success stories. Villamartin has a championship golf course which staged The Mediterranean Open in 1994 - it is claimed to be the Costa Blanca’s most famous course where one can walk in the footsteps of Seve Ballesteros. Villamartin is now much more than just a golf course orientated development, as its origins go back to 1972 and it has expanded far beyond its original boundaries. Villamartin is not just a ‘holiday resort’ and nor is it (just) a 'golf resort' either, as so many of the other golf resorts so clearly are. Villamartin has become a high class self-contained community of property owners, some of whom rent out their properties whilst many live there permanently all year round. It is very British orientated, and even has its own British Supermarket(!) but there are property owners here from many other northern European countries too.

Villamartin has a very 'homely' feel to it, always being that little bit more up market and that little bit more expensive than many of its surrounding developments, so it has an exclusive feel to it that some others do not have.

Many are drawn to this region in general and to Villamartin in particular due to its ‘2nd healthiest place in the World’ status, an award granted by the World Health Organisation. Villamartin has been built with European owners in mind, but on a traditional Spanish model (numerous squares and fountains, gardens and communal areas, swimming pools and properties with polished marble floors, traditional tiles, open fires and typical fancy iron work grills on doors and windows). Villamartin also has a 1st class year round infrastructure; on-site bars and restaurants, shops, a bank and healthcare. Unlike so many ‘golf holiday resorts’ there is activity here throughout the year and there is so much to do in and around the local area. There is a small hotel here and everything is here that one needs for day to day living, and more - there is even a good garden centre here!

There is a vast array of properties for sale here from apartments to townhouses to villas, a huge selection of resales and even after 30 years a large selection of new build properties – it is testament to the continuing success of Villamartin that the original developer has been building properties here for over 35 years. Many Villamartin properties have sea views as Villamartin is just a 5 minute drive from the beach. Villamartin is one of the regions major successes, particularly as it has 2 other championship courses within a 4 minutes drive.

The Villamartin championship golf course is not too long a golf course at 6,132 meters, and well adapted to the natural terrain, designed by Paul Putman. Located in the lowest part of the valley, and not too undulating. Surrounded by thick woods and plenty of vegetation there is a natural precipice that needs avoiding, and there are a number of water hazards. An excellent design giving the opportunity to use all 14 clubs. Magnificently maintained greens are a good size and can be very fast.

The Villamartin VillaGolf Plaza is 'THE' place to meet, with almost every kind of restaurant imaginable, shops, banks, healthcare etc., and people come from far and wide to eat here. Some of the areas best restaurants are located here. In the summer the occasional band might play here, and parrots live in the huge palm trees in the centre of the square (the 2 photos above are of the Villamartin VillaGolf Plaza).

The nearest beach to Villamartin is La Zenia (photo on the left) made up of a number of sandy coves and bays, with wide expanses of golden sand. There are beach bars and even a hotel here, right on the beach. The beach is just a short 5 minute drive and so many people actually walk to the beach, not drive there. 

This is an international ex-pat community of residents, although most residents are from the UK. There is a real feeling of community here, and as a good example New Years Eve parties are held around the communal swimming pools each year.
